John Coburn | Center Earth Pottery
John Coburn, Center Earth Pottery, is from Pegram Tennessee. John the Potter, as they call him, is remember by many who spent their summers at Opryland and John demonstrated on the wheel each day and sold his work. He tells his story of having a degree in Ceramics Engineering, and he moved to middle Tennessee. He was interning under another potter, and happened to see an advertisement in the Nashville Tennessean for a potter at Opryland, so off he went. He shares the most incredible memories from that time in his life. Since Opryland closed in the 90's, John has traveled from Florida to Michigan, selling his work at craft fairs throughout each year as a full time production potter.
John's work is easy to spot, very unique and colorful, and reminiscent of tie-dye. It is unmistakably his own creative style. He has developed several color themes that he has sold for decades, so if you see it, you'll know that it is his work. His glazes are thick multi-color lines that flow like lava, and you can feel the raised glaze on his pieces. You can choose any of his items in one of the many glaze lines that he offers.
