Barbara Deberry Handmade Books and Journals

Barbara DeBerry was born and raised in Michigan, where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Michigan State University. After graduating, she relocated to Tennessee in 1971, where she continues along her artistic journey.

Barbara has had a lifelong passion for textiles and the creative possibilities of fabric. During the pandemic, she discovered the art of bookbinding, which quickly became a new creative obsession and a natural extension of her love for fiber arts. Designing and crafting unique fabric-covered books opened the door to another expressive medium.

She later studied eco-dyeing with two accomplished teachers, learning to create naturally dyed botanical prints using leaves and flowers. These one-of-a-kind botanical images have become an integral part of her work, enriching both her handmade book covers and her sewn textile designs.
